Rezoning Appeal - Charlestown Maryland

Rezoning Appeal

Last year, there was an application filed with the Cecil County Council seeking to rezone six properties located along MD Route 7, just north west of Town.  The properties in question total approximately 36 acres and were previously zoned Suburban Transition Residential (ST). The requests were approved to change and intensify the respective zoning districts to Heavy Industrial (M2).

The Town Commissioners voted unanimously to oppose this rezoning primarily due to the anticipated negative impact Heavy Industrial zoning would have on our community, its close proximity to our residential areas, and the degradation of the bucolic character of our Town. The Town also feels that there was no mistake in the County’s 2011 Comprehensive Rezoning, nor a change since that time in the neighborhood, which warranted approval of the rezoning request.

The Town has formally appealed the County’s decision to the Circuit Court and that hearing is scheduled for April 19th at 1:30 pm. The Circuit Court for Cecil County is located at 129 East Main Street in Elkton, MD.

The purpose of this notice is to inform our residents of the hearing and to request their presence in the court room. Now is the time to show the judge the Town’s opposition in earnest by filling up the court room.

It is not required that you be a Town resident to participate, anyone with an interest is encouraged to attend the hearing.

Your participation and time are appreciated.
